“Josiah did a thorough job of cleaning up the pollution that had spread throughout Israelite territory and got everyone started fresh again, serving and worshiping their God. All through Josiah’s life the people kept to the straight and narrow, obediently following God, the God of their ancestors.” --2 Chronicles 34:33 (The Message)
I carry extra doggie bags on our walk just in case. I’m conscientious about cleaning up Lexi’s mess. Not everyone is. It’s easy to get disgusted with these dog owners who leave a mess behind. Then one day I realized I had an extra bag. Lexi and I were nearly home; I wouldn’t need any more bags for Lexi. I could be the neighbor who cleaned up the neighborhood, who left the world a better place. That’s what King Josiah did. In fact, he got everyone started doing the right thing. Josiah did more than leave the world a better place than he found it. He opened a door to God’s kingdom—and God’s kingdom is the best place. How can we improve the world around us? How can we inspire others to do the same? It’s useless to get mad about the mess we’re in. Pick it up.
