“With promises like this to pull us on, dear friends, let’s make a clean break with everything that defiles or distracts us, both within and without.” --2 Corinthians 7:1 (The Message)
It’s hardest to hold on to Lexi’s leash when she wants to walk fast. She pulls to try to make me go faster. I can try to hold her back and risk her yanking the leash out of my hand. Or I can let her pull me along and pick up my pace. If I want to keep hold of the leash, I have to walk faster. It’s hard to hold on to faith when God wants us to walk fast. We fell him urging us to run the race, not amble along the boulevard. If we try to hold back—if we reserve some love, save some generosity, keep back some kindness—we risk losing our grasp on God’s love. Instead we can let God lead us along and pick up our pace. If we want to keep hold of God’s promises, we have to walk faster. We have to tear ourselves away from distractions and keep our eyes on the goal: “For as long, then, as that promise of resting in him pulls us on to God’s goal for us, we need to be careful that we’re not disqualified” (Hebrews 4:1 The Message). If we keep up, we will find our rest.
Dear God, Help me to walk faster in faith so I can keep my hold on your promises. Amen
