“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” --Psalm 105:4
Dogs can’t ask permission (“May I?”) but they can look for permission. They can be taught to look to their person before chasing a squirrel, jumping in the creek, or eating their dinner. A dog will wait for its person to say or sign “Go ahead” (or not, if you don’t want a wet dog in your backseat). Even Lexi has learned to look to me to see what’s right. Do we cross the road here? Can I greet that Doberman Pincer? Christians look to God. Before we chase after anything, jump into anything, or gratify our desires, we seek God’s guidance. When Lexi looks me in the face, she’s asking for my consent. When we seek God’s face, we’re asking for his blessing. God will show us what’s right if we look to him.
Dear God, Teach me to look to you to see what’s right. Amen
