“An undisciplined, self-willed life is puny; an obedient, God-willed life is spacious.” –Proverbs 15:32 (The Message)
When Lexi is obedient, we can enjoy longer walks and try new directions. Lexi gets to have more fun. When Lexi is obedient, we can explore the whole wide world. But when Lexi’s being stubborn or uncooperative, we don’t make it very far down the road. It isn’t much of a walk. When we Christians are obedient, we can discover the whole wide depth of God’s love. Our stubbornness and willfulness test the limits of God’s patience and forgiveness; we find there is none. But God’s forgiveness isn’t the gauge of his love for us. In obedience we truly discover the fullness and richness of God’s grace. When we’re being unruly or obstinate, we don’t make it very far down the road. It isn’t much of a faith walk. But when we’re obedient, we can enjoy a closer walk with God. We get to have more blessings.
Dear God, Teach me to be obedient so I can enjoy a spacious life. Amen
