Marked and Sealed

“When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit….” –Ephesians 1:13b

“…[He] set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts….”  –1 Corinthians 1:22.

Lexi wears a dog tag on her collar with her city registration number on it. She also has a microchip—a tiny transponder about the size of a grain of rice—under her skin, between her shoulder blades. It was implanted by the Humane Society. It contains her registration number and the registry’s phone number. If Lexi is lost, she can be identified as ours and returned to us. She doesn’t bear our “mark” like a branded cow, but she is marked as our dog. Christians aren’t physically “marked” or branded, either, but we are marked and sealed with the Holy Spirit. God claims us as his own. If we are lost, we are identified as the Lord’s…and we can return to him.

Dear God, Thank you for marking me, sealing me, claiming me as your own so that I can always return to you. Amen
