“This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.’” –Isaiah 48:17
Lexi walks in front of me, but I’m the leader.* I’m leading from behind.** I steer her by throwing treats over her head in the direction I want her to go. She veers to find the treat; she naturally goes down the path where good things lie. Plenty of scripture passages exhort us to follow the Lord, but, truthfully, sometimes we walk in front of God. We may be eager, impatient, zealous, or over-confident. But always God’s the leader. He leads from behind if he has to. He steers us in the way we should go by casting blessings on the path in front of us, over our heads, as it were. We veer to seek the treat; we naturally go down the path where good things lie. Even when we get ahead of God, he’s steering us in the right direction.
Dear God, Thank you for directing my steps even when I get ahead of you. Amen
