God's Creation

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.” –Job 12:7-10

One day Lexi and I walked past a bush full of purple blooms. As we passed, a cloud of monarch butterflies rose up out of the bush and fluttered around my head. I’d never seen so many butterflies hovering together before. (I learned later that a group of butterflies is called a kaleidoscope.) To be startled by Nature’s beauty is to see the hand of God. He created the remarkable life cycle of caterpillar, cocoon, and butterfly. He created seeds, roots, stalks, leaves, and flowers. God created pollen and nectar on which butterflies feed, birds and toads that eat butterflies in turn, snakes and foxes that eat toads and birds; God created the whole web of life! I’m reminded when I walk Lexi that all creation sings God’s glory. We remember when we walk with God that all creation is in his hands, “the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

Dear God, You are the great Creator in whose hands is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind! Amen
