“May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” –2 Thessalonians 3:5
When I walk Lexi I direct her steps. I command her which way to go. I also direct her heart. I can’t command her to love me, but I can care for her and teach her to trust me. This is the natural consequence of walking together day after day. When we walk with God, he directs our steps. He commands us which way to go. God also directs our hearts. He commands us to love him (Deuteronomy 6:5), but he doesn’t compel us. Instead, he forgives us, cares for us, and teaches us how we can trust him. By his faithfulness, he inspires us to love him. This is the natural consequence of walking together day after day. The commandments, instructions, and decrees by which God directs our steps are, in fact, means to direct our hearts. God’s true purpose for each of us is that we find our way into his love.
Dear God, Bless my steps to lead me into your love. Amen
