“Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” --1 Corinthians 9:25
Every aspect of an athlete’s life is part of her training. Eating, sleeping, even leisure time are all carefully planned to support her strengthening and conditioning. She eats a healthy diet and gets plenty of sleep so that she will have energy to train hard the next day, and she takes rest days so that she can work even harder the day after that. I walk the dog. I’m not training for any competitive event. Nevertheless, I would get run down walking Lexi twice or three times a day, day after day, if I always stayed up too late and fueled myself on Snickers bars. So I try to eat a healthy diet and get enough rest every night. Our life choices should support our faith walk, too. As if we were athletes in training for the Lord, we should do everything so that we grow stronger in faith and love. We should fuel our faith walk with the Bread of Life. We should seek rest in the Lord (Matthew 11:28). We want to be able to keep walking day after day—and in the end we will get the crown.
Dear God, Let every aspect of my life be part of my spiritual training so that I keep growing stronger in faith and love. Amen
