Stopping to Drink

“You’re not going to dip into a polluted mud hole and get a cup of clear, cool water, are you?”  --James 3:12 (The Message)

Lexi stops to drink at every mud puddle and stagnant pool we pass on our daily walks. I supply her with plenty of fresh water at home, but she seems to like the taste of brackish water. My son and I joke that it’s “flavor-infused.” Our vet said not to worry, that Lexi’s not likely to get sick from drinking a little dirty water. Christians, on the other hand, shouldn’t drink from puddles. We know that the water we draw from a polluted pond or a stagnant pool won’t quench our thirst for righteousness. We can’t expect to dip into a mud hole and get clean water. In other words, we can’t expect to get Living Water from any source but Christ. When we walk with God, we only stop to drink at the spring of the water of life.

Dear God, Show me where to drink from the spring of the water of life. Amen
