“And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.” –Genesis 7:12
It’s usually sunny in Colorado, but sometimes it rains for several days in a row. I get tired of walking the dog twice a day in the rain. It’s hard to stay dry in a steady, soaking downpour. And when we come back, we have to go out again before my raincoat, jeans, and towel even dry. It’s usually sunny (Son-ny) when we follow Christ, but “Into each life some rain must fall,” as Longfellow wrote. Sometimes it rains for days in a row. We get tired of walking with God in the rain. It’s hard to be a light to the world when we’re drenched. And we have to go out again before our dampened spirits even dry. Thankfully the rain doesn’t last. We can count the days: a week, two weeks, forty days. We walk with God and discover that the Son was out the whole time.
Dear God, When the rain falls, bless me to see the Son. Amen
