“If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” –James 4:17
Lexi has two responsibilities when we walk: to follow my lead and to follow my instructions. In other words, I expect her to go where I want her to go AND to do what I want her to do. Not only do I expect her to cross the street when I cue her, I also expect her to ignore distractions. It isn’t enough for her to be in the right place; she has to do the right thing. So it is when we walk with God. We have two responsibilities: to follow Christ and to follow his commandments. In other words, God expects us to go where he calls us to go AND to do what he wants us to do. Not only does God expect my sister, for example, to go to Costa Rica to teach English, he also expects her to dedicate her energy and talents to her students and their families. It isn’t enough to be in the right place; we have to do the right thing. If we don’t—if we say to God, “Hey, I’m here, what else do you want from me?”—we’re not walking right with God.
Dear God, Help me to go where you want me to go AND do what you want me to do. Amen
