“The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.” –Psalm 65:8
“So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.” –1 Corinthians 14:15
When Lexi goes out into the world, she doesn’t simply enjoy the scenery. She explores the world to understand it. She wants to know who’s been there, how he’s feeling (dogs can detect mood in a scent), and what’s changed since yesterday. For Lexi, walking isn’t a nature walk; it’s learning about her world. Maybe Lexi can’t appreciate the scenery like we humans can. The wonders of God’s creation fill us with awe. But walking in faith is also learning about God’s world. We explore God’s world to understand it, so that we can pray and sing with understanding, as 1 Corinthians 14:15 says. Walking in faith isn’t merely a nature walk. It’s a journey of discovery.
Dear God, Transform my awe into understanding. Amen
