“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” –Galatians 6:10
Lexi’s walks are an opportunity. I give her an opportunity to explore the world, exercise, train. She might not take it. She might walk around the block without sniffing anything. She might stand in one spot instead of moving. She might ignore my directions. I can’t compel her to take an interest, to jog (short of dragging her), or to learn something new. Sometimes she wastes the opportunity I give her. Walking with God is an opportunity, too. God gives us an opportunity to explore his world, to exercise our faith, and to train in righteousness. He gives us an opportunity to do good, to show compassion, to enact forgiveness. Will we take it? God won’t compel us to feed the poor, attend the sick, and eat with sinners. But if we waste our opportunity, why do we walk?
Dear God, Teach me to take the opportunities you give me to do good. Amen
