Focus

“The prophetic Word was confirmed to us. You’ll do well to keep focusing on it.” –from 2 Peter 1:19 The Message

Lexi is usually easily distracted from her task at hand—namely, walking—but when she’s tracking an interesting smell she’s focused and determined. First she circumscribes the area where she detected the smell. She moves her head back and forth to catch the scent again. She bears west, then turns back. She goes east, then abruptly veers north. Nose to the ground, she jogs steadily onward. She won’t be distracted or dissuaded until she finds what she’s looking for. Of course it’s usually something I have to take away, like an empty burrito wrapper. Nevertheless, Lexi’s ability to focus so single-mindedly on one thing among myriad distractions is remarkable. We should be as focused when we walk in faith. Unless we’re focusing on God’s Word, we’re easily distracted. But if we pursue God’s Word single-mindedly, we’ll find what we’re looking for. And when we walk in faith, the thing we find will not be taken away.

Dear God, Help me to be focused on your Word as I walk in faith. Amen
