Teaching to Teach

“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” –2 Timothy 2:2

I joke that dog training is really people training. Our trainer didn’t train Lexi; she trained us to train Lexi. Likewise Jesus taught the fishermen to be fishers of men. The Gospel message is meant to be passed along. 1 Timothy 4:6 says, “…you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.” And 1 Timothy 4:11 says, “Command and teach these things.” In other words, what you have been taught, you should teach. Hebrews 5:12 censures those who don’t: “In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again.” What we were taught about walking the dog, we taught to Lexi. What we are taught about walking with God, we teach to others.

Dear God, Teach me so I can teach others how to walk with you. Amen
