“That’s right—you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set.”—Psalm 119:3 (The Message)
“[D]on’t ever walk off and leave me.” –Psalm 119:8
Lexi isn’t naturally inclined to walk in straight lines. She certainly doesn’t walk straight along the sidewalk. Instead she tends to meander a bit. If we’re walking down the sidewalk to the end of the block, she’s likely to detour past a garbage can or go roundabout to smell a clump of dirt. Who knows where she’d wander if I let her go off on her own. Most humans aren’t inclined to walk in straight lines, either. We certainly don’t walk straight along the road God set. We’re likely to detour or go roundabout. But because we’re walking with God, we don’t totally go off on our own. We try to follow God’s ways. And we can be sure that God won’t ever walk off and leave us, no matter how far from the road we wander.
Dear God, Prevent me from going off on my own—but don’t walk off and leave me no matter how far I’ve wandered from the road. Amen
