Measuring Time

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”  –2 Peter 3:8

I usually wear a watch when I walk Lexi, but a few times I’ve walked her without it. A couple of mornings I forgot to put it on; once the battery died. I can’t guess how long we’ve been walking when I don’t have a timepiece. Five minutes can seem like twenty if we’re standing still; twenty minutes seems like ten if we’re moving briskly along. This is what it’s like to walk with God. There’s no timepiece to tick off the minutes of our faith walk because time doesn’t mean much to God. His time is without end. He wants us to keep walking forever. (So does Lexi.) When we walk in faith, five minutes can seem like ages if we’re standing still.

Dear God, Teach me not to measure time but to trust eternity. Amen
