“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it….” –2 Timothy 3:14
When Lexi came to us she had already mastered “Sit.” We presume that her previous owner taught her. Also, she would never jump on the bed, even if my husband tried to lure her with treats. Obviously she’d been taught not to jump on the bed. A dog’s training sticks. Of course a dog’s training will break down if its human is inconsistent. Otherwise a dog will continue doing what it learned to do. Christians should do the same: “Continue in what you have learned,” scripture says. Our Christian training should stick. At the same time, we’re always learning, always growing in faith. We become more and more convinced of God’s truth. Lexi wasn’t already trained to walk on a leash, but we taught her. Christians aren’t already trained to walk in faith, but we learn. And then we continue on.
Dear God, Bless me to continue in what I have learned about walking with you. Amen
