An Invitation

“Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received!” –2 Peter 1:3 (The Message

When I say to Lexi, “Let’s walk,” it isn’t really an invitation; it’s a command. When I say to my kids, “Let’s get some ice cream,” I mean, “Do you want to get some ice cream?” I wouldn’t compel them to eat it. But when I tell Lexi “Let’s walk,” I’m not really giving her a choice. I will compel her to walk by tugging on her leash. However, when God says to us, “Let’s walk,” it really is an invitation. He’s giving us a choice. That’s why the scripture goes on to say, “So, friends, confirm God’s invitation to you…” (2 Peter 1:10 The Message). We have to RSVP. We could choose not to walk with God. Christ is the invitation; Christ is not a command. God sent him and said, “Please reply.”

Dear God, Bless me to accept your invitation to walk with you. Amen
