Holding Tight

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” –Romans 8:38-39

I hold tight to Lexi’s leash, but she can break away from me if she tries. She has, once or twice. If she lunges with all her might, with every muscle straining, she can yank her leash from my grasp. She weighs sixty-five pounds, after all. I’m lucky that she never ran off. Fortunately, we never get disconnected from God. We can’t break away, even if we try. Whatever tugs at us—fear, guilt, temptation, anxiety, grief—it can’t tear us away from God’s love. Nothing can separate us, not even ourselves. God holds us tight.

Dear God, Thank you for holding me so tight. Amen
