Cheating Time

“Do not be in a hurry to leave the king’s presence.” –Ecclesiastes 8:3a

On weekdays Lexi and I have to be home from our morning walk by 7:00 so I can get the kids up for school. I frequently check my watch as we’re walking so I’ll know when it’s time to head back. I’m always worried about being late; consequently sometimes I turn back too soon. We get home earlier than we need to, and Lexi is cheated of a few more minutes of walking. Sometimes we cheat ourselves of a few more minutes of walking with God. We’re anxious or worried; we keep checking our watches. We turn back to our cares and troubles too soon. Yet God would take all our cares from us (Psalm 55:22, 1 Peter 5:7). Then we can keep on walking with him.

Dear God, Teach me not to cheat myself of time spent walking with you. Amen
