“Steer clear of the barking dogs, those religious busybodies, all bark and no bite.” –Philippians 3:2 (The Message)
Lexi and I hardly ever encounter other dogs when we walk before sunrise—but we do encounter raccoons. Raccoons drive Lexi wild. She smells them all over the neighborhood, especially near trash cans and dumpsters. When she spots one in the dawn light, she barks ferociously. The raccoons are fearless; they seem to know that Lexi is stopped by her leash. The raccoons gaze at Lexi while she barks helplessly, and eventually they amble off about their own business. Are we so wise when the religious busybodies bark at us? Paul advises us to “Steer clear,” to simply continue on our way, the way God has called us to go. Sometimes followers of Christ drive the religious busybodies wild.
Dear God, Help me to steer clear of barking dogs. Amen
