“It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High….” --Psalm 92:1
One day when I was walking our dog I saw the following chalked on a retaining wall along the path: “I can show you the world, shining, shimmering, splendid, Tell me, Princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?” It was elegantly written and illustrated with princesses and hearts. These are the opening lyrics to “A Whole New World” by Alan Menken and Tim Rice from Disney’s movie Aladdin. This artwork seemed less like angry graffiti than a message of hope and love to passers-by. I owned that movie soundtrack when I was in high school, and the song was stuck in my head all day. Music has that power. Paul knew it. That’s why he wrote to the Ephesians, “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord…” (5:18-19). We all have a song of hope and love to share with others as we walk in faith. Hopefully it will get stuck in their heads, too.
Dear God, Bless me with a song of hope and love to share as I walk in faith. Amen
