“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
–Matthew 12:28
I walk Lexi every day before I have my lunch. For a
long time I thought of her midday walk as my last task of the morning before I could
take a break. Then one day—I’d spent the morning sitting at my computer—I pushed
back from the desk and said, “I could use a walk, Lexi. How ‘bout you?” (Of
course she perked right up at the word walk.)
Fresh air and sunshine sounded so good. A short midday walk was just what I
needed to clear my head and ease the stiffness in my neck. After this
realization, my attitude changed. Now the midday walk isn’t the last thing on
my to-do list; it’s the first break from my work. I find rest when I walk Lexi.
We find rest when we walk with God, too. We can lay our burdens and
responsibilities aside. We can take a break from our work, from our worry, from
our struggles. And if we continue to walk with God, we break away from anxiety and fear. We find
peace.
Dear God, Let me find rest walking with you. Amen
