“Cursed be their anger, so fierce, and their fury, so cruel! I will scatter them in Jacob and disperse them in Israel.” –Genesis 49:7
One day Lexi and I were surprised by a dog (and its owner) rounding the corner of a building. Before Lexi could react, the other dog—a tiny little thing—began yapping ferociously. It was wearing a harness with the leash attached on top. The dog’s owner picked it straight up by the leash so that the dog hung suspended off the ground. It continued to bark its heart out even as it was airlifted away. I laughed out loud, it was so funny. The little dog was so ferocious but so impotent. Our fierce anger, our fury, is impotent, too. God brushes it aside. We bark our hearts out, but we don’t accomplish anything. God just carries us away. And when we finally exhaust ourselves, we realize that we’re in God’s arms.
Dear God, Teach me that my fierce anger is impotent and that I should trust in you instead. Amen
