“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” –Proverbs 14:30
Although I struggled to love Lexi in the beginning, I was jealous of her affection. I envied the enthusiasm she displayed for other people. She was wild about our trainer, for example. She was wild for just about anybody. She’s a very friendly dog. (That’s one of her biggest problems, actually.) What I couldn’t see for a long time was Lexi’s loyalty to me. My envy hindered me from fully recognizing Lexi’s devotion. As Christians, envy can hinder us from fully devoting ourselves to Christ. We obsess about what we don’t have instead of trusting ourselves to the Lord. Envy rots our bones, as the proverb says, and then we’re too weak to walk with God. But if we walk with God, our hearts will be at peace.
Dear God, Conquer my envy and let me be at peace. Amen
