“Pray continually.” –1 Thessalonians 5:17
I can’t walk Lexi all day long. I would get tired; she would get tired (eventually); and I wouldn’t get anything else done. There are some days when I feel hard pressed to take even two thirty-minute walks. Then I have to remind myself that it’s only one hour out of my whole day. She deserves that at least. When I’m not walking Lexi—honestly—I’m probably not paying attention to her. I’m out of the house, or I’m working at my desk, or I’m making dinner for my family. Lexi and I might play tug-of-war for a few minutes during the day, and she usually sits on the couch with me when I watch TV at night. However, our twice-daily walks are really our special time together. Most of us probably set aside special time to walk with God. And some days we probably feel hard pressed for devotion time, choir practice, or worship. We have other things to do; we’re tired. Then we remind ourselves that it’s only fifteen minutes, an hour, or one morning a week. We know God deserves that, at least. And when we’re not walking with God—honestly—are we even paying attention to him? The incredible thing is, we can walk with God all day. We won’t get tired, and we’ll get things done for God’s kingdom. When we walk with God, it isn’t time out of our day. Walking with God is our whole life.
Dear God, Help me to walk with you all day long. Amen
