“And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you....” --Isaiah 30:18a (KJV)
Any person who walks a dog should expect the dog to stop and sniff along the way. This is how a dog understands the world around her. A dog’s nose is at least 1000 times more sensitive than a human’s nose (even more sensitive in some breeds). A dog can detect the faintest scents, and she can interpret them to know which dogs and people have been there, where they were before that, if they were male or female, and what mood they were in. A dog’s nose is pretty amazing. But I still get bored waiting for Lexi to sniff every bush and lamppost while we’re on our morning walk. Come on, already, I think, you’re smelling the same dogs who came by here yesterday and the day before and the day before. I’m impatient for Lexi to move along. Fortunately for us, God isn’t impatient with humankind. He will wait on us until we’re ready to receive the blessings that he has to bestow. In other words, he’ll wait for us until we’re ready to walk with him. Even if we’re sidetracked by the same false idols day after day, God will wait. And when we’re ready to move along, the Lord’s grace and mercy will be upon us.
Dear God, Thank you for waiting on me until I’m ready to walk with you. Amen
