“Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.” --Isaiah 35:6a
One morning when Lexi and I stepped outside for our morning walk, there was a deer standing in our front yard. Lexi perked up but didn't lunge forward. (She's descended from herders, not hunters.) Nevertheless, the deer turned when it saw us and leaped gracefully away. The prophet Isaiah promises that we will all leap like deer when the Lord comes (35:4-6). We are all the lame. We are all imperfect, stumbling, crutch-carrying, damaged, inadequate human beings. Yet by God’s grace we are able to walk in faith. And when God’s kingdom comes, we will be transformed. In one moment in my front yard I glimpsed what God has in store for us. If we step out in faith, we will see it, too.
Dear God, Teach me to hope in your kingdom. Amen
