Equiped for Anything

“Now may the God of peace…equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” --Hebrews 13:20-21

When I first set out walking our dog, I naturally wore my walking shoes (which are really running shoes). But my feet got soaked on our early morning walks. The grass was wet with dew, and the shoes had mesh side panels for ventilation. I realized that I needed waterproof shoes for dog walking. I actually bought hiking boots. They are very comfortable, and they are good for wet, mud, and snow as well as weedy meadows, steep creek banks, trash piles, and other places the dog drags me. When God calls us to a new kind of faith walk, we naturally set out with the equipment—the teachings, the experience, and the skills—that we already have. We may realize as we go along that we need new wisdom, new knowledge, and new skills for this section of our journey. We can’t buy those at REI. Thankfully, God will equip us for doing his will; he will bless us with whatever we need. We will be ready for anything.

Dear God, Equip me with the new wisdom and knowledge I will need when I answer your call to a new kind of faith walk. Amen
