And Not Grow Weary

“[B]ut those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” –Isaiah 40:31

A veterinarian once told me, “Walking will tire you out long before it tires out your dog.” Lexi is half Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog), a breed developed for droving cattle over long distances. She can trot along at a steady pace seemingly forever. (Fortunately for me, she’s content to head home after thirty minutes.) Conversely, it’s not so easy for us humans to keep trotting steadily along. We get worn out by disappointment and frustration and grief. Our pace slackens; we stagger; we drop. But when we hope in the Lord—that is, when we walk with God—he renews our strength and sustains us. With him, we walk and are not weary or faint. With God, we can walk forever.

Dear God, Renew my strength so that I can walk forever with you. Amen
