“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” --Romans 8:14
When I take Lexi for a walk, she leads. I know that I should be the leader and that the dog should walk beside me. We just haven’t mastered leash-walking yet. Eventually we’ll learn. Like my dog, we Christians often charge forward, eager to do God’s work in the world. We strain against the chains that hold us back. We don’t consider whether they are there for our own good. Maybe they would prevent us from running into danger, the way the leash prevents my dog from running into the road. In our eagerness, we forget who is supposed to lead and who is supposed to be led. The children of God let the Spirit of God lead us. God knows better than we do where we should go. He asks us to humble ourselves and trust in him. Eventually we’ll learn.
Dear God, Teach me to be led by your Spirit as I walk in faith. Amen
